Wētā lodge - suite

If you’ve got wētā on your property, your predator numbers are under control. No wētā – time for some pest control!

Monitor your wētā numbers by providing a ‘lodge’ for them to live in. This also keeps them safe from their predators – rats, mustelids, cats and hedgehogs.

But be patient. It may take time for wētā to move into their new accommodation!

For more options, see our range of monitoring and recording products.

  • Preservative-free natural wood – with chiselled chambers for wētā to live in
  • Easy viewing – hinged lid with perspex viewing pane

Tips for using your wētā lodge

Wētā like to hide away during the day so they can feel safe from their predators – rats, cats, mustelids, and hedgehogs. A dry hole in a tree is the best place for this, but they’re not always easy to find. A wētā lodge in your backyard or bush provides a wooden retreat where wētā can easily ‘move in’ and relax.

Our wētā lodges are made from preservative-free wood, have chiselled chambers for wētā to crawl into and live in, and a perspex viewing pane to monitor them.

Encourage wētā to move into your wētā lodge:

  • Hang your wētā lodge vertically in a tree or on a fence post.
  • Make sure it’s in a shady spot away from direct sunlight.
  • Keep the cover shut in daylight hours.
  • Open the cover carefully – you don’t want the wētā to fall out.
  • Clean the perspex viewing pane so it doesn’t go mouldy (without using chemicals).
  • Be patient – wētā can take at least 3-4 months to move in.
