Possum Bait Stations

Possum bait stations

Our range of possum bait stations suit all possum control operations – big or small. From biodegradable options to heavy-duty plastic, our bait stations are all proudly made in New Zealand.

Our range of possum toxins are designed to be used in possum bait stations (except Cyanara 50 paste). Depending on the toxin, you can use:

  • Fixed bait stations – heavy-duty plastic stations to place pellets or paste in
  • Bio Bag bait stations – biodegradable bags to place pellets and paste in, which are then stapled onto trees or posts

Why is it important to use bait stations?

Bait stations provide a place to put toxic bait and prefeed to:
  • keep it dry and fresh
  • prevent non-target species getting it
  • encourage target animals to prefeed before placing toxic bait (if you decide to prefeed).

Can possums easily access bait from bait stations when they are mounted flush to tree trunks?

Yes, they can. They've even been observed hanging upside down to feed and will put their paws into stations to remove bait.

Does the colour of bait stations affect the bait uptake?

Some colours may be more readily able to be seen by possums. But on the whole possums are very nosy, inquisitive animals and will be drawn both visually to bait stations and by the smell of baits and lures used.

What is the recommended distance spacing for bait stations?

This will depend on the possum population in the area you intend to bait. A good guide is to refer to the product best practice document for the product (toxin or prefeed) that you intend to use. These documents give bait placement spacing based on infestation levels.
