LureGard – protect your trap lure from mice and rain

Set your trap with a lure intended for a rat or stoat, only to find that mice have removed it before your next check?

LureGard is a durable, egg-shaped lure holder designed to help prevent mice from eating or carrying away your lure. Its openings allow the scent to escape and attract the target predator, while the solid upper section helps protect the lure from rain.

The egg shape also provides a familiar visual cue for stoats and rats. LureGard fits into the standard egg holder used in conventional trap boxes and should be positioned on its side to replicate the natural appearance of an egg in a nest.

Its shiny white surface reflects moonlight, helping make it more visible to rats and stoats in dim conditions.

Suitable lures

LureGard can hold a range of suitable lures, provided they fit inside the device, including:

  • Erayz Jerky
  • Pieces of fresh or salted rabbit
  • Peanut butter
  • Other suitable edible lures

For liquid or paste-style lures, place the lure inside the solid half of the LureGard.

How to use LureGard

  • Open the LureGard by bringing the grille sections together and gently squeezing the thumb tabs
  • Place your chosen lure inside
  • Close the device with the two grille sections aligned
  • Position the LureGard on its side in the trap’s standard egg holder
  • Face the solid half upwards and towards the rear of the enclosure to help shelter the lure from rain
  • Position the grille openings away from the rear mesh
  • Replace the lure as required during regular trap checks

If you are using LureGard in a particularly windy location, it can be secured through the grille slots to prevent it moving around inside the enclosure.

Cleaning and care

Remove old lure when servicing the trap. If mould or residue remains inside the LureGard, wipe it out while wearing gloves before adding fresh lure.

Always wear gloves when handling traps and lures to reduce the risk of disease transmission and avoid transferring unnecessary human scent onto the trapping system.
